New Update available via Windows Update

Post by Whatacrock »

Started my system this morning and the popup displayed there was an update available, allowed it to install and proceeded to investigate what it was for.

The update was KB2952664, checking the support bulletin it appears to be for "Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7". Reading the support bulletin and checking the file information, this appears for upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1.

Am just making this aware to users that may utilize Windows Update for their systems....

[strike]Update: Am a little hesitant in adding this to the Windows 7 releases, so for will leave it out !![/strike]

Note: This update will be included as soon as download link is located... keep your eye on the ball !!

NOW UPDATED ON MAIN LIST !!!

Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 7 Update to Help Users Move to Windows 8

Windows 7 clients across the world have started receiving an update this morning which is specifically designed to help ease the transition to a newer operating system, such as Windows 8.

Microsoft hasn’t rolled this out on Patch Tuesday, but instead decided to wait a little bit longer, most likely in order to allow everyone to discover the benefits of moving to Windows 8.1.

KB2952664 is showing up on all Windows 7 computers, no matter if they’re running the 32- or the 64-bit, and promises to optimize the system for an upgrade to Windows 8.1.

“This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows,” Microsoft says in a very short description posted on its website.

The bulletin is marked as “Important,” has only 2.4 MB in size, and is also supposed to fix some issues in Windows, according to the information posted on Windows Update.

As WindowsITPro reports, the update was first rolled out on April 22, but some computers are only now getting it, so it might take a while until it shows up on all Windows 7 machines. Users are recommended to install it, even if they do not intend to switch to Windows 8 or 8.1 anytime soon.

Took a chance and downloaded/installed the update - am curious to see what it actually did or added; will report back if anything odd happens or appears. (I already have Win8.1.1 on this system - wonder if it will detect it.)

This update doesn't appear to affect the Windows 7 Operating System, it makes the OS prepared if the user decides to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

soo many rumors about about that update that "prepares" windows 7 for update. Everyone thinks its basically pre-installing scare software.
