I'm on a Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit system.

I've tried running with Admin privileges but to no avail.

Checking if an update is already running.
Error Detected: Automation error

After this I re-installed WIndows and followed the instructions for the fresh install, and the updates worked just fine.
